7-Eleven Drugs
Curtains drawn she devours bags of chips
then ice cream to salt and freeze her feelings;
to shove down the agitations.
Her injuries, angers, and passions
held down by carbo overshoes.
Late at night he downs the beers to drown
the innocent emotions; incessant
gulps to flood and choke his sensitivities
to push his spirit under the surface.
He gasps for a breath of authentic life.
To rise above intoxication
expel the glutton of addiction
forever elude the fate of death
to breath in forever, present breath;
feast on small bites of the bread of life.
