ACTS of Prayer

A kind of acrostic poem about the four kinds of prayer.
2
Prayer: an attraction
towards an abstraction
with inexplicable passion;
the ACTS of contemplation.

When the night sky amazes us
and awe seizes our attention
we know there is greater than us;
we are gobsmacked in Adoration.

Divinity forgives our failures.
Can we accept how insipid
our regret, how inept
our pangs of Contrition?

When a child’s love overtakes us,
arrested by the innocent,
and charmed by the constant gift,
where else can we go but Thanks?

God ignores our instructions
waits until we are desperate
and pray our destitution, then
God listens to our Supplications.

We commit our acts of prayer
and God prays back to us,
“Now what?”
