Borrowed Language
Footsteps reshape the sand
but never change the shore
and disappear with the tide
such is our talk about God.
The mystic is sent to explore
the silent core where the Dear One speaks
the seer borrows nouns from nature
and verbs from human nature
and from language itself a way with words
to bring back an account
but, exhausted by the ascent
the explorer can only gasp.
Much later the wizened mystic
says the one remembered Word.
