Breakfast On the Beach

When they landed, they saw a charcoal fire there with a fish laid on it and some bread. John 21:9
4
The water shone with the new risen sun
smoke from the fire swirled around the man
as the roughneck fishermen came ashore.

Hard at it all night in an open boat
they were tired and hungry
and came back empty.

“Children” he said,
“come and have something to eat.”
They knew but could say nothing.

Then, “Do you love me?”
Peter was caught remembering his
“I do not know the man.”

Peter offered his threefold
“You know me, you know I love you,”
once for each betrayal.

The weight around his neck
that threatened to drown him
lifted with the smoke from the fire.

The next day Peter made breakfast.
