Everything becomes a gun for a little boy.
Every stick, screwdriver, flashlight, and pen,
“Tachuu, tachuu, tachuu, gotchyou! You’re dead.”
Monster or bad guy, ninja or storm trooper
we are prey in his hunter-soldier play,
the targets in his video game brain.
The line between little boy and bully
spoiling for a fight is when he cries,
“Mine, all mine. You’re not the boss of me.”
The tyke crosses his arms and all you want to do
is hold out yours, embrace the little tyrant
and pull him back from the brink of hate.
