From The Beginning

No one can take them out of my hand. The Father and I are one. John 10:30

From the beginning, God’s Self-Gift is Jesus
the lover and the beloved are one
and we, molded in the Imago Dei,
are created to live in their affection.

Jesus’ purpose was not to punish.
He did not come to make us feel guilty
or put a crowbar to God’s mercy.
He came to be in solidarity.

The work of Christ is to span the chasm
between us and the wholly other God
His work, atonement, pronounced at-one-ment,
is to swaddle us with our mother God.

Divinity became humanity,
took on our beauty and our misery.
What is taken on is folded in
we are enraptured by divinity.

From the beginning, from the primal spark,
God was madly in love with our earthy
humanity, made from love, to be loved
and able to love in Their intimacy.
