Never leave without a blessing

and if your grandmother is gone

and your father is missing

beg the god of your understanding.

Hang an icon of an angel

on the inside of your front door

place it just above eye level

and as you leave beseech a blessing.

Never go without a blessing

behind, around, ahead of you

to ward off negative thinking

to open the welcoming door.

Not just a prayer of protection

but a way to worry with hope

to suffer without depression

to take strides and keep your balance.

Receive your blessing and listen

below the alarms and sirens

you’ll hear a reverberation

your whispered name of “Borne By Love.”

Once blessed you can face the beast,

best it, and not be disfigured.

No matter what, at the very least,

you will know that you are loved.
