Newlyweds know the laws of lovers they anticipate each other’s needs. Divorcées follow the laws of lawyers wanting to wrest what they need. Faith and religion are for newlyweds but we treat God like we’re litigants. Our Lover wants a lively devotion, but gets our pew weary obligation. God wants palpitation, not codification. so, God sends his Spirit, The Advocate, to counsel us from our legalism and seduce us to her mysticism.
We are not left adrift, Jesus left us with an advocate.
Someone to speak for us, to speak to us, to speak through us.
The Holy Spirit though not clearly seen or known can direct every step.
