The Pull of Family

He got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. Luke 15:20

The pull of family
is not gravitational
but magnetic, the pull
is not constant but changes,
one way or the other,
negative then positive.

The pull can switch
as swift as you can
throw the switch
of a flip remark.

The pull is always there
pushing us away
drawing us back,
making us secure
or hysterical
but always there
for better or worse.

When we leave,
get on a plane, drive away,
we feel this pull of family,
even though not gravitational
it still grounds us.
