The Righteous One
Joy is a sure sign of the Spirit.
The secret handshake
the righteous one never learned.
Why should he when he is
so sure of his own secret
that makes him better than others.
His native tongue is cynicism,
which has no word for trust,
but a hundred for the taste of gasoline.
He has clear focus on chapter and verse
but misses the poetry, the ambiguity
in the totality of God’s library.
In quitting drink he is dying of thirst.
In his tight grasp he has lost his grip.
But, nimble ones can shake with the Spirit.
