Cordial hypocrisy is the diplomacy of the L.A. and D.C. aristocracy. When a writer turns in a draft the producer says, “it’s the best I’ve seen just change everything but the last scene.” When a scientist describes reality the senator says it’s a scare tactic and blames her for his stupidity. The powerful pretend they are helpful when they instigate something awful then insinuate it was all your plan. No wonder camouflage is in fashion where the fix is in with a wink and sabotage.
