Sometimes

Some seed fell on the path… some fell on rocky ground … some seed fell among thorns…But some seed fell on rich soil and produced. Matt 13:6-9
God, you scatter your love like sweets
from a piñata. Sometimes it gets stepped on
by the insensible, those who never notice
a hole in the sole of their shoe.

Sometimes it gets snatched up
by sugar addicts, who are so dissatisfied
because your love is not sentimental,
in fact, it’s too strong for some.

Sometimes it is savored by spiritual aesthetes
for a short time, they swirl it like a glass of wine
sniff, and then set aside for
the something seemingly more sophisticated.

Then there are those of the false smile
who roll it around in their fist,
like dice, tossing it out
hoping to score.
