This one stings...it seems the disciples wanted the magic of Jesus for themselves. As you point out, that's the only way NOT to get it! Thanks for the reminder.

I always want to ask about where this came from for you, but we probably ought to do it over some beer (for you) and wine (for me). Where’d you get that quote by the way?

Actually, I don't drink beer anymore but you can talk me into a dram of a good single malt Scotch whiskey.

Ange - good catch. My mistake. The quote is actually Mark 10:35 - I had the wrong verse. Here's the verse from the NAB "Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.”

Thanks for the correction on the biblical quote. I was actually talking about the last few lines of your poem that were in quotes. Is that something you’ve heard said? (Ah yes, I remember now. No beer, but Scotland is not too far to go for good whiskey.)

That Sanzo was in quotes because it supposedly came out of Jesus as mouth to his interlocutor. The original title of the poem was “a prayer and response”. But I changed it.
